Hyundai has take its first ever Golden Award at this year’s EuroCarBody Conference, held near Frankfurt, Germany, managing to defeat nine other manufacturers from Europe and Japan. This is also a first for any Asian manufacturer, and a significant achievement, as 500 automotive experts cars their vote on the car.
The i40, which won them the top prize, got 37.98 out of a maximum 50 points, with the closest competitor being the Audi A6 with 35.86 points, followed by the Mercedes B-Class in third place with 34.66.
“Winning the EuroCarBody Golden Award demonstrates our commitment to providing the highest levels of safety for Hyundai customers. The i40 was recently awarded a maximum five-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash test, and this latest award is further independent evidence that our technology is market-leading. We will continue our efforts for ever-better technology to protect passengers and improve all aspects of vehicle performance,” said Allan Rushforth, Senior Vice President and COO of Hyundai MotorEurope.
