Hyundai has just revealed a pair of photos showing the new i40, which will make its official global debut at the beginning of March at the Geneva Motor Show.    Together with the new model comes a new brand slogan ‘New Thinking. New Possibilities’ - reflecting the company’s confident approach to design and engineering.

According to the official press release, the i40 is Hyundai’s first D-segment vehicle to be developed with European customers in mind, offering a package of powertrains, equipment and technology tailored to tastes. The model shown in the photos is in the estate form, the first variant to arrive in Europe via Geneva, while a saloon will soon follow later this year. This will most likely target the European saloon D-segment, with rivals like the Ford Mondeo, Peugeot 508, Mazda6 and Volkswagen Passat in its cross-hairs.

Coming back to the estate, we can tell you that is exterior styling looks much closer to that of the American Elantra than we could have expected, while also incorporating the ‘fluidic sculpture’ design language. The roofline, which can make or brake a model like this, flows nicely into the rear lights.

Hyundai has promised a high level of standard equipment, including heated and reclining front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel and an active de-mist system that automatically detects and clears mist on the windscreen.

“Offering more for less has always been a fundamental principle at Hyundai, and now we are advancing this with our new brand direction under the ‘New Thinking. New Possibilities.’ slogan. The i40 is a perfect example of how we are offering the best and making it accessible to everyone. From stunning design and specification, to industry-leading technology and aftersales care – the i40 sets itself apart from its competitors,” stated Allan Rushforth, Senior Vice President and COO of Hyundai Motor Europe, describing the new model.

Hyundai Veloster Euro NCAP

Post by Car Exist

Cars Hyundai on this post under tags as bellows :  One of the cars that managed to surprise us from the twelve test results that were just released by Euro NCAP is Hyundai’s innovative 1+2 coupe, the Veloster, which got five full stars and shined in many segments you wouldn’t think it could.

First off, adult occupant protection was the highest off all the cars, and the Veloster even managed to guard against whiplash in case of a rear impact. Child occupant protection was also good for both the 18 month and 3 year old child dummies, and the coupe scored 89% in this case.

“Clear information is provided to the driver regarding the status of the airbag and the system was rewarded. Clear information is provided regarding the dangers of using a rearward facing child restraint in that seat without first disabling the airbag,” Euro NCAP says.

Protection provided by the bumper and front edge of the bonnet to the legs and pelvis of a struck pedestrian was good or marginal. Overall, with a score of just 49%, it’s not the best car to hit people in, but it’s clear that Hyundai tried its best ti make the edges as soft as possible. The car’s downside comes with the fact that the head of the pedestrian wound be struck by the glass area.

Euro NCAP says that Electronic stability control is standard on the Veloster, as is a seat belt reminder for the driver and front passenger seats, so it got 71% for its safely assist devices.

The EV uses the i10 model as a base, measuring 3,585 mm in length, 1,595 mm in width and 1,540 mm in height.

The vehicle’s electric drive system includes an electric motor that delivers 83 hp and 210 Nm of torque and a 16.4 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery.

The BlueOn needs 13.1 seconds to reach 62 mph and offers a top speed of 81 mph (130 km/h). The vehicle has been fitted with a Virtual Engine Sound System (VESS) that creates an artificial sound aimed at warning pedestrians that a vehicle is approaching.

The battery offers a driving range of 87 miles (140 km) and can reach a full charge status after six hours, if a standard 220V household outlet is used. Hyundai also offers a 380V fast charger that brings the battery’s charge level to 80 percent in 25 minutes. The driver can get the charging information via a new 4.2 inch LCD screen.

The project was finalized through a 40 billion won investment ($34,3 million or EUR26,9 million). Hyundai will offer a fleet of 30 BlueOn vehicles to the Korean Government for testing purposes and in order to help develop the country’s charging infrastructure. The company is planing to build 2,500 units of the vehicle by 2013.

Last year, Hyundai unveiled its first highway legal full speed electric vehicle design, called BlueOn. This compact electric car is based on the Korean automaker’s i10 hatchback design and is capable and has a range of about 87 miles (140 kilometers).

Kia also has an electric car called TAM, which will be launched later this year. The automaker expects to produce a total of over 2,000 units by the end of next year.

“Hyundai has been focusing on small-sized electric models, considering limited battery technologies and its high cost. However, as the world’s eco-friendly car market enters a mature phase and battery technology improves, compact-size electric vehicle models are expected to be mainstream,” the automaker says.
