The 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

Post by Car Exist on Wednesday, January 02, 2013

The 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid ranks 3 out of 19 Affordable Midsize Cars. This ranking is based on our analysis of 16 published reviews and test drives of the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.

The 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is ranked:

#3 in Affordable Midsize Cars
#2 in Hybrid Cars

The 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid ranks at the top of the pack for its good fuel economy, smooth transmission and long list of standard features, which make it a great value among hybrids.

If you want the technology and fuel savings a hybrid car provides, but are still on a budget, reviewers say the 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is your best choice, since its base price is less than most of the competition. A lengthy warranty, upscale interior, composed handling and good acceleration also add to the Sonata Hybrid’s value.

A few of the Sonata Hybrid’s drawbacks include fuel economy ratings that aren’t as good as some key competitors, a distracting fuel efficiency display and Hyundai’s Blue eco mode, which test drivers say makes the car lethargic.

Overall, the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is just a great affordable midsize car. Test drivers like that there are hardly any performance trade-offs compared with the gas-only Sonata. If you’re shopping for a stylish hybrid, the automotive press says you can’t get any better than the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid.
Other Cars to Consider

After a full redesign, the Toyota Camry Hybrid now gets better overall EPA fuel economy ratings than the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. Its exterior styling is more sedate and conservative compared with the Sonata Hybrid, but reviewers are impressed with its spacious, comfortable, upscale interior. They also like that the transition from the gas engine to the electric motor is flawless and barely undetectable in the Camry Hybrid.

The Ford Fusion Hybrid is another good hybrid sedan to consider. Test drivers say its handling is the best among hybrid midsize cars, and they also like its high-tech, roomy interior.

The 2013 Hyundai Sonata

Post by Car Exist

The 2013 Hyundai Sonata ranks 3 out of 19 Affordable Midsize Cars. This ranking is based on our analysis of 16 published reviews and test drives of the Hyundai Sonata, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.

The 2013 Hyundai Sonata remains competitive in its class, thanks to high fuel economy estimates, modern styling and a spacious cabin. However, a slew of newly-redesigned midsize cars may give the Sonata a run for its money.

Though the 2013 Hyundai Sonata is missing a few things that some of its rivals offer, like a six-cylinder engine and manual transmission, auto critics aren’t complaining. The 2013 Sonata has a four- and turbo-four-cylinder engine, and test drivers say both engines offer plenty of power for most drivers. Both engines have good fuel economy ratings of 24/35 (base) and 22/34 (turbo) mpg city/highway for the class. A few auto critics note that the Sonata’s engines are loud when pushed, but not any more than rivals.

Some reviewers are disappointed with a few mid-grade interior materials, but overall, they like the layout, design and functionality the Sonata’s cabin provides. There’s plenty of space for families, and many test drivers like the stylish, contemporary interior design. Reviewers say the 2013 Hyundai Sonata has a good array of standard interior features for the class, including Bluetooth, auxiliary and USB audio jacks, satellite radio and Hyundai’s Blue Link telematics system. The 2013 Sonata can be equipped with features like a rearview camera, heated front and rear seats, a panoramic sunroof, Infinity sound system, HD Radio and navigation.

"If you're in the market for a mid-size sedan and the usual suspects fail to arouse your emotions, the 2013 Hyundai Sonata could be the perfect choice. Given its generous level of standard equipment, its lengthy warranty and rising residual values, the Sonata offers perhaps the best value of the group." -- Kelley Blue Book

"While its suspension composure lags rivals, it is offset by the entire lineup's unique blend of style, interior comfort, standard and available features, and value pricing. That's what makes Sonata an exceptional midsize sedan." -- Consumer Guide

"This is, quite frankly, a tremendous amount of car for the money." -- Edmunds (2011)
"It gives buyers a huge amount of refinement, driving enjoyment, comfort and style for not a lot of money." -- USA Today (2011)

Other Cars to Consider
The Ford Fusion is a good car to put on your list if you’re looking at the Hyundai Sonata. Like the Sonata, it has a spacious cabin and trunk and its interior is filled with upscale materials. While test drivers say the Sonata’s handling is a middle ground between comfort and sport, the Fusion’s handling is described as crisp and athletic. The Fusion offers a manual transmission, which isn’t available on the Sonata, as well as optional all-wheel drive on 2.0L Ecoboost models.

The 2013 Chevrolet Malibu is also worth a look if you’re considering the 2013 Sonata. The Malibu was redesigned for 2013, and reviewers like its modern exterior design, new engines, bountiful tech features and quality cabin materials. Like the Sonata, the 2013 Malibu has nixed the V6 engine option in favor of more fuel-efficient four-cylinder engines. However, the 2013 Malibu’s optional turbocharged four-cylinder engine produces less horsepower than the 2013 Sonata’s optional turbo-four.

Hyundai Avante

Post by Car Exist on Sunday, March 04, 2012

Hyundai has unveiled the 2011 Elantra (known as the Avante in South Korea) at the Busan Motor Show in its home country. This is the fifth generation of the popular compact car, Hyundai’s best-selling model worldwide, with over 6 million units sold since 1990.

Completely redesigned, the Elantra uses design cues from the new Accent, unveiled this month at the Auto China 2010 in Beijing, but also from the new Sonata. The new Elantra wears a "fluidic sculpture" design with four-door coupe styling, High Intensity Discharge headlights (HID) and LED taillights.

Interior pictures are yet to be released, but Hyundai says in the press release that the cabin offers "advanced features not found on other compacts." Equipment includes heated rear seats, ambient lighting, and a color TFT LCD information display.

Under the hood, the Elantra is powered by a 1.6-liter Gamma GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) four-cylinder engine, developing 140 horsepower and 133 lb-ft of torque (167 Nm). The unit is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. It’s the first time GDI technology and six-speed automatic are put together on a compact sedan in Korea. The direct injection and the automatic gearbox make the Elantra “10 percent more fuel efficient than its closest competitors,” according to Hyundai.

Hyundai Reveals New i40 Ahead of Geneva

Post by Car Exist on Friday, October 28, 2011

Cars Hyundai on this post under tags as bellows

Hyundai has just revealed a pair of photos showing the new i40, which will make its official global debut at the beginning of March at the Geneva Motor Show.    Together with the new model comes a new brand slogan ‘New Thinking. New Possibilities’ - reflecting the company’s confident approach to design and engineering.

According to the official press release, the i40 is Hyundai’s first D-segment vehicle to be developed with European customers in mind, offering a package of powertrains, equipment and technology tailored to tastes. The model shown in the photos is in the estate form, the first variant to arrive in Europe via Geneva, while a saloon will soon follow later this year. This will most likely target the European saloon D-segment, with rivals like the Ford Mondeo, Peugeot 508, Mazda6 and Volkswagen Passat in its cross-hairs.

Coming back to the estate, we can tell you that is exterior styling looks much closer to that of the American Elantra than we could have expected, while also incorporating the ‘fluidic sculpture’ design language. The roofline, which can make or brake a model like this, flows nicely into the rear lights.

Hyundai has promised a high level of standard equipment, including heated and reclining front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel and an active de-mist system that automatically detects and clears mist on the windscreen.

“Offering more for less has always been a fundamental principle at Hyundai, and now we are advancing this with our new brand direction under the ‘New Thinking. New Possibilities.’ slogan. The i40 is a perfect example of how we are offering the best and making it accessible to everyone. From stunning design and specification, to industry-leading technology and aftersales care – the i40 sets itself apart from its competitors,” stated Allan Rushforth, Senior Vice President and COO of Hyundai Motor Europe, describing the new model.

Hyundai Veloster Euro NCAP

Post by Car Exist

Cars Hyundai on this post under tags as bellows :  One of the cars that managed to surprise us from the twelve test results that were just released by Euro NCAP is Hyundai’s innovative 1+2 coupe, the Veloster, which got five full stars and shined in many segments you wouldn’t think it could.

First off, adult occupant protection was the highest off all the cars, and the Veloster even managed to guard against whiplash in case of a rear impact. Child occupant protection was also good for both the 18 month and 3 year old child dummies, and the coupe scored 89% in this case.

“Clear information is provided to the driver regarding the status of the airbag and the system was rewarded. Clear information is provided regarding the dangers of using a rearward facing child restraint in that seat without first disabling the airbag,” Euro NCAP says.

Protection provided by the bumper and front edge of the bonnet to the legs and pelvis of a struck pedestrian was good or marginal. Overall, with a score of just 49%, it’s not the best car to hit people in, but it’s clear that Hyundai tried its best ti make the edges as soft as possible. The car’s downside comes with the fact that the head of the pedestrian wound be struck by the glass area.

Euro NCAP says that Electronic stability control is standard on the Veloster, as is a seat belt reminder for the driver and front passenger seats, so it got 71% for its safely assist devices.

The EV uses the i10 model as a base, measuring 3,585 mm in length, 1,595 mm in width and 1,540 mm in height.

The vehicle’s electric drive system includes an electric motor that delivers 83 hp and 210 Nm of torque and a 16.4 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery.

The BlueOn needs 13.1 seconds to reach 62 mph and offers a top speed of 81 mph (130 km/h). The vehicle has been fitted with a Virtual Engine Sound System (VESS) that creates an artificial sound aimed at warning pedestrians that a vehicle is approaching.

Hyundai also offers a 380V fast charger that brings the battery’s charge level to 80 percent in 25 minutes. The driver can get the charging information via a new 4.2 inch LCD screen.

The project was finalized through a 40 billion won investment ($34,3 million or EUR26,9 million). Hyundai’s Green Car Global Leading Strategy

Post by Car Exist

Cars Hyundai on this post under tags as bellows

Last year, Hyundai unveiled its first highway legal full speed electric vehicle design, called BlueOn. This compact electric car is based on the Korean automaker’s i10 hatchback design and is capable and has a range of about 87 miles (140 kilometers).

Kia also has an electric car called TAM, which will be launched later this year. The automaker expects to produce a total of over 2,000 units by the end of next year.

“Hyundai has been focusing on small-sized electric models, considering limited battery technologies and its high cost. However, as the world’s eco-friendly car market enters a mature phase and battery technology improves, compact-size electric vehicle models are expected to be mainstream,” the automaker says.

The all-new Hyundai i40 Wagon

Post by Car Exist

Hyundai wins accolade for body engineering .The all-new Hyundai i40 Wagon has beaten the new Audi A6, Mercedes-Benz B class, BMW 1 series and the Mazda CX-5 to win the Golden Award at this year's EuroCarBody Conference, held in Germany.

The award is regarded as the highest international accolade for body engineering, and the winner is decided after evaluation over a three day period by the EuroCarBody Board, as well as the entire international expert audience of 500 conference delegates.

"This is the first time Hyundai has entered the awards, and as a result, Hyundai also became the first Asian car manufacturer to be awarded the top prize," says Hyundai New Zealand's Chief Operating Officer, Tom Ruddenklau.

"And with the all-new Hyundai i40 Wagon due to launch here in late January 2012, New Zealanders will be able to see for themselves what so impressed this international peer group of automotive engineers and designers."

Hosted by Automotive Circle International, an organization consisting of top automotive suppliers and manufacturers, the judges praised the advanced engineering and effective use of materials, as well as the production efficiency of the i40 Wagon, which scored 37.98 out of a maximum 50 points. The closest competitor and second-placed car, the Audi A6, scored 35.86, with the Mercedes B-Class in third place achieving 34.66. A total of nine of Europe and Japan's largest automotive manufacturers competed for the award.

The all-new i40 Wagon was designed and engineered in Europe, and uses high strength steel and improved joins in its structure. This means the i40 Wagon's lightweight body has high energy absorption efficiency which increases safety for occupants in the event of an accident.

The Hyundai i40 Wagon recently achieved a maximum 5* ANCAP safety rating and is in the lowest insurance grouping for a mid-segment car in the UK, thanks to its innovative body structure.

"The Hyundai i40 Wagon is beautifully designed but also extremely practical," says Tom Ruddenklau.

"To have been given this endorsement by the world's top automotive engineering experts, and to be benchmarked as the market leader for design is a fantastic achievement for the Hyundai brand."
